At One World Foundation we believe teaching math and science in an integrated format helps students to build strengths in the two subject areas simultaneously. We examine two basic aspects of science: method and results. Our goal is to show a direct link by providing concrete analysis. Our lessons look at and teach the method and then examine the results. Without the method, the results would never have been achieved. Our Math Science Connections workshops aim to teach students the method of science through scientific and mathematical investigations. During these investigations, students learn both mathematics and science.
Emphasizing the scientific method and fundamental science concepts helps students develop an understanding of the connections between mathematics and science. In these investigations, students develop and apply important mathematical skills and concepts in meaningful situations. Their understanding of fundamental scientific concepts is also enhanced through the use of quantitative tools. We help teachers prepare lessons that will bring students through the process of performing an experiment, identifying the variables, gathering data, graphing information and understanding the relationship between given variables. When children are taught in a hands-on approach they make connections naturally blending math and science.
Math Science Connections seminars are workshops designed for educators who teach grades K - 8. We provide effective, field-tested strategies for integrating mathematics, science and ELA skills, based upon the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Curriculum Frameworks for these core subject areas.
